Breathing Space is a special phone line which has been set up to support people, particularly men, who are suffering from low mood and depression. Breathing Space is funded by the Scottish Government and by NHS 24.

Confidentiality and anonymity underpin this service. As a Breathing Space phone line advisor you will provide a listening and advice service, if need be, signposting callers to appropriate resources and support groups available locally and nationally.

Successful applicants will have a relevant professional qualification and experience of either counselling, nursing, social work, education or psychology. It is essential that applicants have experience of working with clients who are experiencing suicidal ideation.

In addition, the ability to be a good communicator as well as being calm and patient when dealing with sensitive and distressing situations is essential, as is the desire and motivation to work with this client group. Applicants with additional BSL skills will be considered although BSL use is not an integral part of the Breathing Space advisor role.

The line is open from 18.00 till 02.00 every day of the year as well as 24 hours at the weekends. Rotas are currently being built around the opening times of the service and will be discussed at interview.

If you feel you meet the above criteria, have a willingness to offer your skills to the above client group and want to be part of this dynamic and skilled team then please see application details below:

Please note that interviews will be held the week commencing 22nd March.  If you wish to have an informal discussion about this post, you may contact Stephen Anderson, Service Manager, on 07747 721940.
