BSL service award nomination

Webcam service recognised

Breathing Space's new groundbreaking British Sign Language service has been nominated for a technology award.

Deaf people struggling to cope emotionally can contact the service via webcam to explore their concerns or anxieties with trained advisers who use BSL. The advisers can offer support, advice or provide information on specific problems or issues.

The new webcam service for Deaf people in Scotland only went live last month. It has been nominated for "Innovative use of technology in delivering a helpline service" at the BT/THA Helpline Awards 2010.

The awards are organised by The Helplines Association, the membership and good practice organisation for helplines. The awards promote and recognise the outstanding work carried out by helplines within the not-for-profit sector. The Awards are supported by BT.
