Perth takes some Breathing Space

As part of Mental Health Week Breathing Space is just one of the organisations taking part in a programme of activities in Perth & Kinross.

Representatives from Breathing Space will be hosting an information stand in the St. John’s Shopping Centre in Perth on Friday 13 October from 10am-3pm.

The activities around Mental Health Week in the area are aimed at the general public and anyone in the community – professionals, carers, volunteers, charities, mental health service users or anyone else with a general interest in mental well-being.

Tony McLaren, Breathing Space Service Co-ordinator, commented: “It is great to have the opportunity to meet with the local community and to share their experiences. The event will provide us with the chance to take stock of where we are as well as hearing from the local Choose Life Co-ordinator for a more local perspective.

“Breathing Space can offer people a confidential space to talk about any difficulties they are experiencing or if they are unhappy in their lives. We have specialist call advisors available every day of the year from 6pm – 2am on 0800 83 85 87 (Minicom: 0800 31 71 60).  Call advisors can listen and offer advice, or suggest people who can help with more specific problems in the caller’s local area.

“It is important to maintain awareness of Breathing Space, and other services available locally. By working alongside other agencies, Breathing Space hopes to encourage the public and young men in particular, to talk about their feelings and to seek help early to prevent any problems escalating.”

Other organisations taking part in Mental Health Week in Perth and Kinross include Choose Life and the Scottish Recovery Network.
